Wine Girl Brings the Sommelier home with ‘Wine in the Kitchen’

Female-friendly wine-tasting experience in a hatbox launches in Toronto

Toronto, June 8, 2009 - Just in time for summer gatherings at the home or cottage, the women-worthyWine in the Kitchen kit is set to launch in Toronto in late June.  Created by Western Canada’s favourite female sommelier, Erin RosarWine in the Kitchen–a pink hatbox that includes all the elements for a fun and educational at-home wine party including a DVD walkthrough of the wine tasting experience–will be uncorked in Toronto following a successful debut in Calgary earlier this year.

Media should mark their calendars to attend the Wine in the Kitchen launch event, Tuesday, June 23, 2009. Invitations with more details to follow soon.

Groups of seasoned wine enthusiasts and beginners alike are in for a wine experience like no other with Wine in the Kitchen, as Erin guides them through a series of swirling, sniffing and sipping, in the unintimidating atmosphere of home.

Founder of WG Wines Consulting–known for its Wine Girl personality who regularly offers wine-related information including tasting tips and recipes at www.wgwines.com--Erin Rosar, through her various sommelier consulting and teaching experiences, recognized a missing link in the wine experience realm for women. They wanted to learn about wine in a fun and entertaining way without fear of stiff or intimidating parameters like snooty wine events. To boot, Rosar couldn’t fulfill all the requests to provide her unique brand of ‘upbeat and approachable’ sommelier services in person. So she created Wine in the Kitchen.

“No one was explaining wine in an entertaining and user-friendly fashion,” said Rosar, who likes to pair wine with unusual foods like grilled cheese sandwiches. “Wine in the Kitchen is all about slowing down and enjoying wine with the people closest to you, whether that be at a girls night in, a dinner party, a weekend at the cottage or even for special occasions like bachelorettes and showers.”

The first Wine in the Kitchen kit  is an introduction to sparkling, red and white wines, and Rosar–who also has to her credit, winner of City Palate’s 2008 Sommelier Challenge–plans to create more episodes with other themes such as Bubbles 101, Beer, Wine and Chocolate and Wines of France.  In addition to the DVD featuring Rosar’s expert guidance, the kit includes: a fully-loaded guidebook; an aroma and color poster; hostess letter; wine shopping list (essentially a spoiler alert for the consultant at the wine store to use along with the six numbered buttons and six wine bags provided); tasting sheets and 10 WG pencils; food pairing sheet; and magnets perfect for the fridge ‘in the kitchen’.

The Wine in the Kitchen product could equally be considered ‘a sommelier in a hatbox’ as ‘an event in a box’ with all the tools for an unmatched wine education experience, not to mention it makes a great gift.

Wine in the Kitchen kits are currently available for purchase online at www.wgwines.com and will be available by June 25, 2009 at 2 locations of Toronto kitchen and wine accessory retailer, Pepper Mill (87 Avenue Road in Hazelton Lanes and 117o Yonge Street across from the Summerhill LCBO store), with additional select retailers to be announced later this month.

On Thursday, June 25, 2009, female wine enthusiasts can dish up some fun with wine by joining in on an intimate “Appetizers and Wine in the Kitchen: Plan, Prep, Pair” class of 30 guests at Dish Cooking Studio (390 Dupont Street). Led by Chef Michelle Massey and featuring Wine in the Kitchen creator and sommelier Erin Rosar educating on wine pairings, the demonstration class ($100) takes a literal spin on ‘Wine in the Kitchen’. More details and signup available through www.dishcookingstudio.com or by calling 416.920.5559.

Proving that wine and social responsibility go hand and hand, this special class at Dish is also a Pre Pink Bedroom Party, in advance of the 6th Pink Bedroom party on October 1, 2009, with $10 from each class participant’s fee being donated to Sick Kids Hospital.www.pinkbedroomparty.com

Watch too for Wine in the Kitchen to be featured at Smut Soiree with Lainey Gossip and The Society on Tuesday, June 23, 2009.
