Wolfberger, Cremant D’Alsace, France

Tuesday, November 3rd, 2009

The Wolfberger Cremant d’Alsace is a delicious sparkling wine that is made in the same method as Champagne. That means that it will have lots of tiny, lively and long lasting bubbles just waiting to tickle your nose as you enjoy every sip. This wine is made from a blend of 80% Pinot Blanc and the other 20% is made up of a mix of Riesling, Pinot Gris and Chardonnay. It will fill your glass with the flavours of ripe apple, pear,  hints of peach and apricot and just a touch of warm toast. In the glass it is a rich honey colour and aromatic to the nose.

Enjoy this wine with creamy cheeses, brunch dishes, patés and French onion soup, or just a great book and bubble bath.

Retailing between $18.00 – 25.00 this wine is an outstanding  value!

French 75

Cocktail Recipe – French 75

The “French 75″ was invented when legendary WWII French flying ace, Raoul Lufbery – a great lover of Champagne, wanted something with more of a “kick”.

Esquire magazine cites this as a favourite of the Lost Generation, and adds that “hell, there’s enough alcohol in it to give Hemingway a buzz.”

Ingredients

3 tablespoons (1 1/2 ounces) gin

1 1/2 tablespoons (3/4 ounce) fresh lemon juice

1 tablespoon (1/2 ounce) simple syrup

1 cup ice cubes

1/4 cup (2 ounces) dry sparkling wine, such as brut Champagne, chilled

Preparation

In cocktail shaker, combine gin, lemon juice, and simple syrup. Add ice and shake vigorously for 20 seconds. Strain into chilled Champagne flute and top with sparkling wine.

Garnish drink with twist and serve immediately.

(If you like the sound of this cocktail, but don’t want to make it yourself, head down to Vin Room in Calgary and have barman Dave make one for you! www.vinroom.com)
