This week on WG TV Erin shares hints and tips on how to build the perfect ice bucket for chilling wine.
Una Pizzeria
There is a code of ethics when it comes to restaurant reviewing, believe it or not… One of the key principles is that a review should never be conducted in the first month of a restaurant’s opening, as it usually takes a month or so to work out all of the kinks, and to give the staff a chance to settle in.
Una Pizzeria, which has taken over the Wicked Wedge’s space on Calgary’s 17th Ave, is too good not to share. Still in their first month, this kitchen is turning out food that would make more established venues green with envy.
I tend to judge a pizza joint by how well they can pull off the basics, and Una’s Margherita didn’t disappoint. On the contrary, it was the best pizza I’ve had since moving to Calgary. My dinner companion’s mushroom pizza, with roasted mushrooms and arugula was delicious as well, and we couldn’t resist trading slices. We began our evening with Serrano ham and melon – the addition of mint was fantastic. Next time I’ll save room for dessert!
Una doesn’t take reservations, but serves food and wine until 1am. The wine list offers plenty of unique selections by the glass, and will change regularly. The room buzzes with energy – try to get a spot at the open kitchen bar to watch the magic happen!
Speaking of magic, the soundtrack in the loos was the audio from a Harry Potter movie – a unique touch!
